The kids we care for have lived through more than most adults. Some are old enough to want some independence but still need plenty of guidance, support, and hugs, especially from their biological families. That’s why at Children’s Home, families are encouraged to remain involved in their children’s healing journey.
Maya is a 16-year-old client who resides in our RISE program. Before coming to live here, she had a strained relationship with her family. Maya’s mom, Delores, has become a frequent face at CHOY. She stops by regularly to help her daughter with homework, bake cookies, or just hang out, and that’s a huge gift to Maya. Delores said she had never had the opportunity to be so involved while her daughter was in care. She said having more time with Maya has significantly improved their relationship and hope for reunification.
For our teens and children, it truly takes a village: parents, social workers, educators, and most importantly, you.
